Please reaffirm your oath to the Constitution and resolve to support and defend it better as your first resolution of the new year.
Trump and his administration have made unceasing attacks on our rights, the rule of law, and the Constitution.
It’s well past time to impeach them for those.
We the people have had enough of this tyranny and desecration - of the rule of law, of the White House, of our rights.
Let me remind you that separation of church and state is a fundamental principle enshrined in the 1st Amendment:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Trump, his appointees, and ICE are flouting the 1st Amendment every day.
Please speak out publicly to decounce their anti-1A actions. America has no established religion. Peaceful assembly to seek redress of grievances is legal.
Don’t forget to defend 14A, birthright citizenship, and the Constitution itself: let me remind you that the right of habeas corpus is to be found in Article I, Section 9, Clause 2, known as the Suspension Clause, which protects the right to challenge unlawful detention.
All members of Congress took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, to bear true faith and allegiance to it, and to faithfully discharge their duties, as outlined in Article VI of the Constitution, not to a party or President, symbolizing their primary loyalty to the nation’s foundational law.
Reaffirm that oath and speak out against all attempts to attack, undermine, flout, and overturn the Constitution. Congress has collectively failed at this hitherto. It’s time to change.
