An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Co-Sponsor the Prevent an Unconstitutional War in Cuba Act - No More Wars

1,530 so far! Let’s get to 2,000 signers!

Today I’m writing to urge you to Co-sponsor and support the Prevent an Unconstitutional War in Cuba Act. Any military action against Cuba must require a formal declaration of war from Congress — that is not a procedural nicety, it is the Constitution. The executive branch does not get to launch a war unilaterally, and my representative should be on record saying so. In the case of Cuba, we could have had a peaceful resolution to decades of isolation for Cuba, but once again Trump nixed that peaceful opening up of Cuba, obviously because neither he not Marco Rubio stand to make a profit off of taking what they want. The stakes here are real. Military conflict with Cuba would put American lives at risk, destabilize the region, and set a precedent that Congress has no meaningful role in decisions of war and peace. This bill is a direct assertion of congressional authority, and voting against it — or simply ignoring it — is a vote to surrender that authority to the White House indefinitely. Please co-sponsor this legislation and push for a floor vote. We must not give up any chance for Congress to re-assert control over any illegal and rash actions by this so-called administration. Thank you.
