An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Investigate 30 ICE Custody Deaths and Detention Conditions

37 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

I am writing to demand a comprehensive investigation into the 30 deaths that have occurred in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in 2025, making this the deadliest year since 2004. This alarming death toll requires immediate congressional oversight and accountability from DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, ICE official Tom Homan, and the private prison companies operating these facilities. The deaths coincide with ICE detaining nearly 60,000 people, the highest number in years, following a $70 billion funding increase this summer. Former ICE officials warn that rapid expansion without proportional staffing increases is creating dangerous conditions. Medical conditions surrounding these deaths include tuberculosis, strokes, respiratory failure, and approximately three possible suicides, with 4 additional deaths occurring just this week. DHS's flippancy regarding lives and human rights is deplorable. Hold them accountable.
