An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Expand and support NOAA! Don’t allow cuts to staff or funding!

31 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

The proposed cuts to NOAA's budget and elimination of critical research offices are deeply concerning. NOAA's work is vital for providing accurate weather forecasts, understanding climate patterns, and keeping communities safe from severe storms and other natural disasters. Gutting funding for atmospheric research, data collection, and expert analysis would be detrimental to public safety and industries like agriculture that rely on this information. These reckless cuts neglect the very real threats posed by increasingly extreme weather events fueled by climate change. Defunding the ability to monitor, study, and prepare for such hazards puts American lives and livelihoods at risk. Robust funding for NOAA's research and forecasting capabilities is essential to protect our nation's citizens, infrastructure, and economic interests. I urge you to reject these draconian budget cuts and instead increase support for NOAA's indispensable work. Preserving and strengthening weather and climate research is a critical investment in our nation's resilience and security. Endangering these efforts to satisfy an ideological agenda is irresponsible and dangerous. Please act to fully fund NOAA and allow its skilled personnel to continue their essential mission.
