An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose Trump’s Destructive Tariff Regime

3 so far! Let’s get to 5 signers!

I am writing to urge you to stand firmly against the reckless tariff policies being pushed by Donald Trump. His proposals for across-the-board tariffs—particularly his plan for a universal 10% tariff on all imports—would severely damage American consumers, businesses, and our standing in the global economy. Crippling Costs for American Families A blanket tariff is a hidden tax on every American household. It raises prices on essential goods—from food to electronics to clothing. Low- and middle-income Americans will bear the brunt, as their cost of living rises while wages stagnate. Tariffs don’t punish foreign companies; they punish American families. Job Losses, Not Job Growth Trump’s rhetoric ignores the reality: tariffs hurt American workers. Industries reliant on imported materials—like manufacturing, agriculture, and construction—will face higher costs and reduced demand. Retaliatory tariffs from other nations will destroy export markets and cause job losses across the country. Global Economic Instability A sweeping tariff regime invites trade wars, erodes alliances, and destabilizes global markets. America’s credibility as a trade partner will collapse, and nations will forge agreements without us. Isolation is not strength—it is surrender. Authoritarian Economics Tariffs used as a political weapon, dictated by one man’s whims, signal the rise of authoritarian-style economics. This centralization of economic policy is dangerous and deeply un-American. Congress must assert its authority and reestablish rational, transparent trade policy. I urge you to reject Trump’s destructive tariff regime and fight for a future rooted in economic stability, global cooperation, and protection for American families.
