Block Todd Blanche's Confirmation and Investigate His Conduct at DOJ

Do not confirm Todd Blanche as Attorney General. His conduct since taking office disqualifies him from leading the Department of Justice, and Congress has both the authority and the obligation to stop it. The case against Blanche is extensive. One hundred and one former judges, joined by Democracy Defenders Fund and Lawyers Defending American Democracy, have filed a formal bar complaint against him with the New York State Attorney Grievance Commission, citing his role in the Trump v. IRS settlement, abuse of DOJ authority against political enemies, and a botched release of Epstein documents riddled with conflicts of interest. CNN has reported that Trump personally handed Blanche a stack of articles with "Treason" written in Sharpie and pushed him to subpoena journalists at the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal. Now Blanche has signed an internal memo allowing the Attorney General to transfer any federal prisoner to any facility, anywhere, with no oversight or review. That is a tool for political punishment, not justice. The internal DOJ disciplinary system has been dismantled. The Office of Professional Responsibility is gone. Dozens of DOJ lawyers have flouted court orders with no consequences. State bar accountability is the last check standing, and Blanche is trying to shield DOJ attorneys from that too. Congress must refuse to confirm him, launch a full investigation into his actions at DOJ, and make clear that the Department of Justice cannot be run as a political weapon by anyone beholden to this administration.
