An open letter to the U.S. Congress

No Cuts to SNAP - Farm Bill

46 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to oppose and vote NO on any cuts to the SNAP Program currently being considered as part of the Farm Bill in the House of Representatives. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, is one of the most powerful tools we have to end childhood hunger. Today, SNAP helps support 1 in 5 kids in our country with the nutrition they need. But this critical program does much more than fill a child's empty stomach. It helps them grow up smarter, stronger and healthier. Limiting future updates to the Thrifty Food Plan -- which helps SNAP benefit levels keep pace with the cost of food and how families live and eat -- comes at a steep price. According to the Congressional Budget Office, not only would it cut SNAP and other nutrition programs by nearly $30 billion over the next decade, it would also threaten to cut $500 million in summertime grocery benefits through the new Summer EBT program. I urge you to vote NO on this Farm Bill proposal. Thank you.
