Its expertise, resources, and nationwide operational capabilities are essential for rapid deployment of aid during emergencies. Leaving states to largely fend for themselves would strain their limited resources and hinder swift, large-scale mobilization when catastrophes strike. Many states lack the finances, personnel, and infrastructure to handle major disasters alone. This move leaves impacted communities vulnerable and delays vital assistance when lives are at stake. Moreover, natural disasters do not respect state lines. Events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can impact multiple states simultaneously. Robust federal leadership and inter-state coordination through FEMA are imperative to ensure a cohesive, well-resourced response across affected regions. Instead of dismantling FEMA, we should be bolstering its capabilities and funding to enhance preparedness and protection for all Americans facing the increasing challenges posed by disasters.
