Support Veterans Outdoor Rehabilitation Act (S. 4197) I am a voting constituent and a supporter of our nation’s veterans writing to express my strong support for the Veterans Outdoor Rehabilitation Act, which was recently introduced in the Senate (S. 4197) and highlighted in a recent report by Stars and Stripes. This bipartisan legislation—sponsored by Senators Kevin Cramer, Maggie Hassan, John Boozman, and Elissa Slotkin—represents a critical step forward in how we care for the men and women who have served our country. As the article correctly notes, healing for many veterans does not always happen within the four walls of a doctor’s office. For those struggling with the "invisible wounds" of war, such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety, the great outdoors offers a unique and proven path toward recovery and wellness. The Veterans Outdoor Rehabilitation Act would: Expand Access to Nature-Based Therapy: By establishing a federal grant program, the bill allows state veterans’ agencies to develop or expand structured outdoor recreation programs tailored specifically for veterans. Empower Local Communities: It provides states with the flexibility to run programs directly or partner with local outfitters and recreation providers, ensuring that services are accessible and rooted in the community. Ensure Equitable Funding: With a minimum of $200,000 for every state that applies, the bill ensures that veterans across the country—regardless of their geography—can benefit from these life-changing opportunities. Build on Proven Success: This effort builds on the foundation of the Veterans COMPACT Act of 2020 and aligns with studies showing that outdoor recreation significantly improves veteran well-being and eases the transition to civilian life. Our veterans have sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms. Providing them with the resources to find "healing, hope, and a sense of calm" in America’s beautiful public lands is a common-sense investment in their future. I urge you to co-sponsor and support the swift passage of the Veterans Outdoor Rehabilitation Act.
