Furthermore, the bill is an administrative impossibility. With a current State Department backlog of over 30,000 renunciation cases and a processing capacity of only 5,000 per year, requiring millions to renounce in twelve months is logistically impossible. The human cost would be devastating. This bill forces families to choose between their American identity and their ability to work, access healthcare, or receive pensions abroad. It unjustly targets "accidental Americans" and imposes massive Exit Tax liabilities on law-abiding citizens. Dual citizenship has been legal throughout our history and poses no threat to our national security.
