An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Revoke unelected billionaire's unchecked access to healthcare data systems

It is deeply concerning to learn that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has gained access to sensitive health payment systems and private data across federal agencies like the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This unilateral move by an unelected billionaire, without proper congressional oversight or public input, poses significant risks to the integrity and security of these critical healthcare programs that millions of Americans rely on. The sweeping access granted to DOGE to probe payment systems handling trillions of dollars annually and employee data raises grave legal and ethical concerns. The potential for mishandling sensitive health information, disrupting crucial funding streams, and compromising the delivery of essential medical services to vulnerable populations is simply unacceptable. While efforts to identify and address improper payments are commendable, the current approach by DOGE lacks transparency, accountability, and due process. Unilateral actions that could jeopardize the well-being of countless individuals and disrupt the healthcare system cannot be justified, especially without robust safeguards and public scrutiny. Therefore, I urge you to take immediate action to revoke DOGE's access to these systems and implement stringent oversight measures to prevent any further unauthorized access or manipulation of sensitive data. The stakes are too high to allow an unelected entity to wield such broad powers without appropriate checks and balances. Protecting the integrity of our healthcare system and safeguarding the privacy and well-being of the American people must be the utmost priority.
