An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Pass the Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act

1,576 so far! Let’s get to 2,000 signers!

I am writing to urge your support for the Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act, a bipartisan bill introduced to modernize the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Currently, federal law contains an illogical loophole: SNAP recipients can purchase a rotisserie chicken if it is cold, but are prohibited from buying the exact same bird if it is hot. This outdated technicality forces grocery stores to waste energy cooling down prepared food and places an unnecessary burden on low-income families, seniors, and individuals without reliable cooking equipment. Rotisserie chicken is one of the most affordable, high-quality protein sources in the grocery store—often priced as low as $5.00. For busy parents and elderly citizens, a pre-cooked hot chicken provides a nutritious, time-saving meal that is ready to serve immediately. This bill does not increase federal spending or expand SNAP eligibility; it simply provides dignity and common-sense flexibility to 42 million Americans. It aligns the program with the real-world needs of modern families while eliminating a wasteful regulatory barrier. I strongly encourage you to co-sponsor and pass the Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act to ensure that healthy, affordable meals are accessible to all.
