Oppose Trump’s Unconstitutional Executive Order on Voting Rights

32 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

I’m writing today to express my extreme concern over President Trump's recent announcement regarding his plans to issue an executive order on voting procedures. This proposed order, which would mandate voter ID and ban mail-in voting with limited exceptions, is not only unconstitutional but also a direct threat to our democratic process. When is anyone going to stop this continuous degradation of everything we’ve built, and the progress we’ve made for 250 years? The Constitution clearly delegates the authority over elections primarily to the states, with Congress having the power to alter regulations. The president has no constitutional role in overseeing elections, making this proposed executive order a clear overreach of executive power. We've already seen the consequences of similar attempts. Trump's previous executive order requiring documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration has been largely blocked by courts as unconstitutional. Despite this, some Republican-led states have implemented new ID requirements in response, potentially disenfranchising eligible voters. It's crucial to note that mail-in voting, which Trump seeks to ban, is a safe and secure method of voting. Even Republican election officials have affirmed this fact. Ironically, President Trump himself votes by mail, highlighting the hypocrisy of his stance. The proposed ban on mail-in voting, with exceptions only for the severely ill and military personnel serving far away, would disproportionately affect many eligible voters, including the elderly, disabled, and those unable to take time off work to vote in person. Furthermore, the mandate for paper ballots only could create logistical nightmares and potentially increase waiting times at polling stations, effectively suppressing voter turnout. Time is of the essence. With the next election cycle approaching, we need to ensure that every eligible voter can exercise their right to vote without unnecessary barriers. I urge you to refute these ‘orders’ as un-Constitutional and un-democratic, and take immediate steps to address this critical issue. Voting is the bedrock or our self-rule. Protect it. Now. Thank you.
