Deploying the national guard in DC is yet another instance of gross abuse of the presidency.
This is a manufactured crisis. DC is as safe as it's been for 30 years. Trump refused to deploy the national guard promptly to stop his January 6th coup attempt.
Now he appears to be violating the posse comitatus act.
This is also a gross misuse of resources that could be spent caring for our veterans, feeding the hungry, repairing roads, improving education, providing medical care.
DC did not ask for this.
America did not ask for this. It is wasteful, inflammatory, unnecessary-- and it reeks of aspiring authoritarian control.
Trump invoked section 740 of the DC home rule act to take over the DC police force: this has never been done before. He had to declare "special emergency conditions" and is required to notify Congress within 48 hours. Congress can end this control; it expires in 30 days.
Please come back from your vacation and do your job:
There is no emergency.
Halt Trump's use of the DC home rule act sec. 740 and condemn his declaration of an emergency for the lie that it is.
I ask you to speak out against this deployment; do oversight, make criminal referrals where appropriate. And make DC a state as soon as possible.
It's past time to impeach Trump. Do so now while you can.
