Words of War Create Worlds of Conflict - Reject DOD Name Change I am a voting constituent writing to express my firm opposition to legislative proposals seeking to rename the Department of Defense or allocate funding for such a transition. Language is not merely a label; it is a psychological framework that shapes the attitudes of our personnel and the perceptions of the world. Reverting to titles such as the "Department of War" or formalizing the aggressive label of "warfighters" signals a dangerous pivot from protection to provocation. Words change thinking. By framing our mission through the lens of "war" rather than "defense," we adopt a stance of perpetual combativeness. This shift does not project strength; it projects an eagerness for conflict that alienates our allies and unnecessarily antagonizes our adversaries. Furthermore, the financial cost of such a rebranding—updating signage, documentation, and materials—is a frivolous waste of taxpayer resources. These funds should be directed toward genuine security needs or diplomatic initiatives, not a cosmetic shift that undermines our global standing. I urge you to reject any funding for this name change. Our national identity must remain rooted in the principle of defense. We must choose words that reflect a commitment to stability, not terms that invite enmity.
