18 Years and Out for Supreme Court: Pass the ROBE Act! I am writing to urge your support for the Reform of Bench Eligibility (ROBE) Act, recently introduced by Congressman Johnny Olszewski. This constitutional amendment would establish 18-year term limits for Supreme Court Justices, moving our nation away from the outdated model of lifetime appointments. The current system has incentivized political gamesmanship, leading to strategic retirements and a confirmation process that prioritizes ideological longevity over judicial qualification. As modern tenures reach historic lengths, the Court has become increasingly insulated from accountability. Furthermore, public confidence in the judiciary is at a breaking point due to partisan behavior and ethical concerns that undermine the Court’s role as an impartial arbiter. The ROBE Act provides a common-sense solution by ensuring regular, predictable turnover. By standardizing appointments every two years, we can lower the stakes of individual vacancies and reduce the extreme polarization surrounding the bench. This reform is essential to restoring the integrity of our highest court and ensuring it remains a fair, independent institution. I ask that you co-sponsor this legislation and work toward its swift passage to safeguard the future of our republic and restore the American people’s faith in the Supreme Court.
