Reject Suppressive SAVE Act, Protect Voter Access

801 so far! Let’s get to 1,000 signers!

The SAVE Act is an unnecessary and redundant piece of legislation that would create unnecessary barriers to voting for eligible citizens. It is critical that we protect and expand access to the democratic process, not erect additional obstacles. I strongly urge you to reject this bill, as it would disenfranchise many eligible voters and undermine the integrity of our elections. There are already robust processes in place to verify voter eligibility, and this legislation is a solution in search of a problem. Instead of pursuing discriminatory and suppressive voting measures, we should be working to strengthen our democracy and make it easier for all eligible citizens to exercise their fundamental right to vote. Please stand up for voting rights and voter access by opposing the SAVE Act. Rationale: The SAVE Act purports to address voter fraud concerns by requiring documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration. However, numerous studies have shown voter impersonation and non-citizen voting to be extremely rare occurrences that do not justify restrictive legislation. The real impact would be to disenfranchise legitimate voters, particularly elderly, minority, low-income, and student voters who may face challenges obtaining required documents. Existing safeguards like voter ID laws and voter roll audits are sufficient to ensure election integrity without creating discriminatory barriers. Rather than this suppressive legislation, we should expand voter access through policies like automatic voter registration, vote-by-mail, and adequate polling place resources. Protecting the right to vote for all eligible citizens should be the priority.
