As a citizen of Loveland, a taxpayer, and veteran, I am extremely concerned about the rise of anti-government and election-denying behavior in our community and in the country at large. I do not think that anyone who supported or facilitated the insurrection that occurred on January 6th, 2021 should be permitted to hold public office or be on the ballot in our state. I strongly urge you to support legislation to exclude such people from getting on the ballots in our counties. As you well know, this position is firmly grounded in section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, as well as the enabling statutes provided by section 5. We must put an end to the hyper-partisanship and tribalism that is threatening to destroy democracy and abide by the results of valid elections and the peaceful transfer of power if our country is to survive. When a political party loses an election, the truly democratic response should be to present policy ideas to the voters that allows it to regain that majority, not to deny the legitimacy of the election because it feels it has the "right" to govern, despite the demonstrated will of the people. Being in the loyal opposition from time to time is the morally sound position, not overthrowing the government because you lost an election.
