Reaffirm Commitment to Ukraine, Uphold Democratic Values Against Aggression
The United States' vote against condemning Russia's war in Ukraine at the UN is a deeply alarming shift away from supporting democracy and sovereignty. Appeasing authoritarian aggression has historically emboldened further violence and oppression. Putin's ambitions extend far beyond Ukraine's borders, posing a threat to stability across Europe and democratic values globally. Rather than kowtowing to the Kremlin, we must reaffirm our commitment to Ukraine by providing military aid and multilateral sanctions until Russia withdraws its forces completely. This unprovoked invasion represents an assault on the international rules-based order that preserves peace and human rights. Siding with Moscow over our steadfast allies risks irreparable damage to American credibility and interests worldwide. I urge a return to the principled position of defending Ukraine's territorial integrity and self-determination as a frontline state in the struggle against authoritarianism.
