In the face of everything we are struggling to save today, I’m writing to urge your support for S. 843/H.R.347, the Sea Turtle Rescue Assistance Act of 2025.
Endorsed by several major aquariums across the US, the bill is bipartisan, since some coastal states have aquariums with these kinds of rescue programs.
Sea turtles are one of the most recognized species in the world. Real ambassadors that represent the oceans and natural world we must save if we are to save ourselves. As you know face numerous threats, including loss of habitat, entanglement in fishing gear, plastic pollution, boat strikes, and increasingly frequent cold-stunning events due to climate change.
These endangered species require dedicated care and rehabilitation from organizations across the country. However, there is currently no federal grant program providing direct funding support for these crucial sea turtle rescue and recovery efforts.
The bipartisan Sea Turtle Rescue Assistance Act would establish a much-needed grant program to directly assist facilities caring for stranded, sick, and injured sea turtles. This legislation is vital for continuing important sea turtle conservation work and ensuring these magnificent animals receive the care they desperately need.
I urge swift passage of the Sea Turtle Rescue Assistance Act S.843/H.R. 347 to safeguard vulnerable sea turtle populations. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
